The year was 1984. It had just gone after 6:30pm on the 27th of October, when a little girl named Andrea Claire Glidden (nee Burke) was born.

The year was 2008. It had just gone after 6:30pm on the 27th of October, when a little girl calf aptly named Andrea was born on the Glidden's farm.

(Note: Not actual calf photo. The real heifer was covered in afterbirth and things, but it has a black body and white face like the one shown)

The Final Thirteen...

The golden hour has struck and Happpppp... I'm finally 24.

So, you might be wondering, Hey Andrea, what happened to the final thirteen tasks, you piker?
Well, trying to patch back some of the details, here is a final rundown of the thirteen tasks completed. Note: I can't remember most of what happened so I'll keep updating this as I go along and as I hear stories from other people.

So I get into work with a bag of ice and crack into my first drink of the day. 7.40am.

Shortly after the boss gets in, I pour myself another. Soon the boss, plus 3 other collegues have joined me for alcoholic beverages and good times.

Awwww yeeahhh.

So now, the boss and the team had this crazy idea so that we rewrite the last eleven on the list since it was looking doubtful I could do it in time.

Crossing off getting drunk all day and of course, not writing/texting/calling all day (which was a bit of a given considering the state I was in), I had eleven remaining.

So as far as I can remember, this is the list:
11. Smoke a cigar
10. Drink a shot of Absinthe
9. Try chicken feet
8. Make a $100 bet on Red 27 at the Casino
7. Go to showies
...
I can't remember what else happened so I'm not sure what else is on the list.

I'm sure someone has a photo essay of what happened though... yipes. (to be updated)

So I was talking to Alex and Colin a couple of months back on the topic of decanters. They mentioned that they had one ages ago for an ad thing they did, but really wanted one for their new office.

And so I looked around on TradeMe and found this lovely French Crystal Whiskey Decanter. I explained it was a gift and needed to be sent without any of my details.

They love it.

- Not write/type/text anything for a whole day (being a copywriter, this is pretty hard)

- Learn the skillfull art of the handbreak turn.

- Read the news on the radio

- Buy a considered trademe product and gift it anonymously to someone.

- Sing Ace of Spades at Karaoke/hot wire a car

- Go to zoo and have a tarantula crawl across my hands.

- Completely destroy an inanimate object for no reason aside from watching it smash to bits.

- Give a bum a new jacket or some decent shoes.

- Pet a turtle

- Dress up as a hippie and blow the minds of some squares

- Watch all of 24 in a 24 hour sesh - !!!!!

- Get drunk all day at work.

- Get a v.small ‘24’ tattoo.. (but I'm not keen on tatts... so it may be replaced by a few extra options on the table)

Task Ten: Walk an old person across the road

There I was, ten past seven in the am, waiting to cross the road when a cute little old man shuffled up next to me. Normally I'd be striding across before the WALK sign like the rebel that I am, but today was different. I said good morning to Grandpa and asked if he'd accompany me across the road.
Why certainly, was the old mans reply.
And as we shuffled across the road together, he talked about how cold it was this morning, and how he hadn't had his cup of tea yet.

We arrived at the other side of the road, and after a quick thank you I was on my way with an amazing sense of satisfaction. But when I looked back, the little old man still standing there, ready to cross the road again.

Sigh.

Task Ten. Walk an old person across the road. DONE.

The newest member of the family

Awwwwww, the newest member of the Glidden household is about 9 inches tall and is named Peanut (from Harvey Birdman).

He's a little border terrier, the runt of the pack, who is quiet and lovely. We of course picked the runt of the litter. Soon he'll have a little mate to play with as Dave wants a cat too (named Harvey).

And of course we took a thousand pictures of him. He still has his balls. Adorable.

Task Nine: Eat junk food only all day.

What a nice change from that horrendous Durian. Well, the morning started off with a light McDonalds breakfast followed by stocking up the cupboard on the rest of the days junk. Lucky for me, it's Bathurst today so I've had a right nice lazy day in front of the tv watching cars zooming around and around *hic*.

Task Eight: Eat a durian fruit

Forget the whitetails, the kiddy snatchers and the rapists, the durian fruit is now officially the most dangerous thing on the streets. Thanks to my Creative Director, the mentioned horror arrived on my desk this morning. So after much build up and hacking into with large knife, I finally took a large bite of durian.
It tasted like a mixture of onion and sulfur icecream scraped off the bottom of someones trash can.

Yuck yuck yuck. And the afterburps are NOT HELPING. I'm gonna gag my way through this afternoon.

"Mankind lets poison be sold in a dairy.. next to the milk."

Task Eight. Eat a durian fruit. DONE. (and NEVER doing again)

A huge hooray! for my new Army of Darkness T-shirt.

A bit of background for those who don't know: Army of Darkness as a New Zealand Punk band and their music is said to "strike a cord with all who experienced them; fast and energetic with topics everyone can relate to - politics, love, the horrific, death and retribution". Well said.

Task Six - Eat English Marmite with lots of Olivani

Over here in NZ, English marmite is most popularly known as OurMate.
Warned by Katrina not to use too much, I spread generous amounts of Olivani (an olive oil based butter without the dairy) before applying a delicate layer of OurMate...

With delicious results! I was pleasantly suprised how much OurMate actually tastes better than stupid old marmite, which was on my plate as a Comparison-Mite.

What a way to start the morning!

Task Five: Visit the SPCA

On Sunday, Dave took me out to the SPCA Animal house in Mangere. Geez this was depressing. The little puppies and dogs are in cages, they have a small run but they all need a good home. It was hard to leave without taking a couple of animals with us. They do have an amazing animal recovery area where injured cats get to recover in a room - that actually looks like a room in a house (ie, single bed, desk, couch).

After doing this, Dave and I have decided to get a dog and a cat at the same time, so we're waiting for kitten season at the SPCA.

Well, I fulfilled the first half. Call in sick.

However, I really AM sick. With a stinkin' headcold no less.

Thus making it impossible for me to be a bum today.

If it's any consolation, I'm wearing dreary colours, taking drugs, wheezing, complaining and don't have any money or transportation. Bum-ish.

But seeing as this only an "ish", I 'm going to go for another.

When realising that I, Andrea Glidden, have completed what some would consider a couple of major events in my life by the tender age of 23 (getting married, building a house), there was still a whole lot of little things that I hadn't yet experienced.

Thus, a fantastic list was created by the good people of Muckmouth.com.

And now, the clock is ticking to complete 24 tasks by the time I turn 24 with photo/video evidence as proof. And here it is in no particular order:

The List:
- Go on a rollercoaster
- Eat ENGLISH marmite on white toast, with plenty of flora/olivani..

- Go to zoo and in a controlled environment, have a tarantula crawl across my hands.
- Drop in on a mini ramp (any size will do)
- Completely destroy an inanimate object for no reason aside from watching it smash to bits.
- Call your mum or dad out of the blue for once and have a good old chin wag about whatever their into.
- Give a bum a new jacket or some decent shoes.

- Pet a turtle
